About the Artist and Collection

Couture Divas by Azaïdé is a two-year project celebrating strong, independent women through vibrant pieces blending vintage and modern styles with authentic traditional wear. Inspired by her grandmother, a women's rights advocate in North Africa, Azaïdé pays tribute to women’s courage and beauty. Her name, derived from the Persian word "Azadeh" meaning "free-minded," reflects her mission to promote liberation and empowerment through her art.

Azaïdé’s creative process involves transforming old photographs into stories that empower women to break boundaries and explore their potential. By incorporating elements of pop culture, her work remains relatable while celebrating Arab heritage. Through modernized traditional attire, Azaïdé fosters global cross-cultural dialogue and inspires audiences worldwide.

About the Artwork

Aaliyah Cruz embodies a bold, modern skater who exudes defiance and rebellion. Facing the viewer confidently beneath her hijab, she represents liberation from oppression and a desire for recognition. Her dress features intricate embroidery of the "evil eye," symbolizing protection and strength against adversity.

The piece includes the word Taufiq, meaning "success and prosperity" in Arabic, reflecting Aaliyah’s journey of resilience and emancipation. Skateboarding becomes her tool to defy authority, express her creativity, and gain independence. Despite challenges, she adapts and persists, striving for freedom and self-expression.

Azaïdé’s signature embroidery blends traditional art with modern flair, empowering her characters to reveal their true selves and shine brightly.
